Navigation and walking routes#
Navigation in Fyndi guides you on foot from where you are standing to your destination — a route start, a find or a stop. This is not the same as starting a route: you can always have an approach drawn, even when you are not exploring.
Navigate is not the same as Start route#
| Navigate | Start route | |
|---|---|---|
| What for | to reach the destination | to explore a route |
| From where | from your current position | only on site, at the route start |
| What happens | an approach line and a time are drawn | the route run starts and stops begin to complete |
| When available | always, as long as you know your position | when GPS confirms you are within the start radius |
You can be in the middle of a tour and navigating at the same time — but you end guidance with a button, not with a tap on the map.
What guidance looks like#
- Tap Navigate in the route panel or on the find card.
- The app works out a walking path and draws a blue approach line together with a chip showing the time.
- After a moment of overview the camera switches to street mode — it follows you with smoothed rotation, like car navigation.
- A shortcut appears above the map: Open navigation (Maps / Waze) — it opens Google Maps or Waze with the same destination.
- You end guidance with the Stop navigation button. An accidental tap on the map will not interrupt it.
Arrival time and travel mode#
The time shown at the destination is counted from the distance and the speed of the travel mode you picked:
| Mode | Speed used for estimates | Vehicle on the map |
|---|---|---|
| On foot | about 5 km/h (from the router's time) | none — the character walks |
| By bike | about 15 km/h | a bike |
| By scooter | about 12 km/h | a scooter |
You pick the mode in the Character screen (Character and creator → travel mode). After a change, every arrival time in the app is counted from scratch.
Fyndi has no voice prompts and no turn-by-turn directions — that is what the Maps / Waze shortcut is for. The app does not guide you behind the wheel, it guides you hand in hand.
When there is no connection#
Requesting a walking path needs the internet: the router lives on the server, not in the phone.
- Without a network you will see a message that navigation needs a connection, plus the straight-line distance to the destination — with that you can head there by eye, and guidance returns once you have signal again.
- In that situation it is best to use the Maps / Waze shortcut, which have their own offline maps.
- The map and the markers keep working from the offline pack (Offline mode).
Routes you can explore#
You will find the list of routes with distance and stop count in the Routes tab at the bottom of the screen. You can also open a route from the map — by tapping a marker with a flag. The tour itself, stop by stop, is described in Walking a route, and the ways of completing stops in Route stops.
