Theme and appearance#
Fyndi has three interface looks — day, dusk and night — plus a separate setting for the look of the map itself. By default the app follows the map's light: when dusk falls over the city, it darkens together with it, and you do not have to touch anything.
The three app looks#
| Look | When it appears | What it looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Day | bright, the sun is high | light backgrounds and bars, dark text |
| Dusk | the sun is going down low, but night has not fallen yet | a warm half-dark: brown-and-cream backgrounds, a turquoise accent |
| Night | after sunset | dark green-and-black backgrounds, light text |
Dusk is not a “dimmed day”: it is a separate palette, added after the owner's remark that if the map has three times of day, the app should have three colours too. You can see the difference with the naked eye — the tab bar is once white, once warm brown, once dark.
What you choose in Settings#
In Settings → Appearance and language → App theme (App settings) you have four choices:
- Match the map — the app follows the map's light (recommended; this is the default),
- Light — forces day,
- Dusk — forces the warm half-dark,
- Dark — forces night.
A forced choice takes precedence over the map's light: pick “Light” at 10 pm and the app will be light — but the map will still be night-time, because those are two different settings.
Map light: two options, one order#
The map has its own look (the colours of roads, buildings and greenery) and its own light. Two options in the Map group in Settings govern it:
| Option | Choices | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Map theme | Automatic (by time of day) / Day / Night | always — it is the one that decides first |
| Time of day on the map | Auto (by Sun) / Day / Dusk / Night | only when the map theme is set to “Automatic” |
The order is one and worth remembering: a forced day or night wins, and “Automatic” hands control over to Time of day — and that one, on “Auto”, computes the Sun's position above the city. That is why, when you pick “Map theme: Night”, changing “Time of day” changes nothing: the map is already pinned to night.
The theme in the character creator and the 3D preview#
Screens in the app — the character creator and the 3D preview — get the same theme as the app, so the window with your character will not flash white when it opens. The creator works live: change the theme in Settings, and an open preview switches over without reloading and without losing what you have already set (Character and creator).
The theme in the AR and camera views#
Over the camera what counts is contrast, not mood: the tiles and indicators in the AR view and in the camera view have two palettes — a light one for day and a dark one for dusk and night. Thanks to that the markers are readable against a bright sky and in a dark courtyard (AR view, Camera and photos).
When the theme looks different from what you chose#
| Symptom | Cause and what to do |
|---|---|
| The app is light in the evening, though you did not choose “Light” | most likely App theme has a forced choice — set Match the map |
| The map is night-time at noon | Map theme has “Night” selected; switch it to “Automatic” so that “Time of day” comes back |
| “Time of day” makes no difference | that is normal when Map theme is forced to Day or Night — see the order above |
| The theme changed only a moment after entering the app | the map's light is computed from the Sun's position and refreshes in the background once a minute; give the app a moment |
